ResearchEngineering Research for the Benefit of SocietyEngineering is likely to dominate the 21st century in the same way science dominated the 20th century in terms of discovery and technological advancement. There is enormous potential in areas such as nano materials, biomechanics and water management and the research activities of the Melbourne Engineering Research Institute (MERIT) promise significant benefits to the community by addressing these and other important societal problems. MERIT strengthens the profile of world-leading research in the Melbourne School of Engineering, making it more visible to industry, research and business communities. MERIT sits within the Melbourne School of Engineering and supports the School's goal to advance its status as one of the top-ranking engineering schools in the world. MERIT consolidates the School's research into four independent but closely aligned research themes, unified by the common goal of 'engineering research for the benefit of society'. MERIT provides vision, leadership and support for our research activities by focusing efforts on problems of global importance, increasing multidisciplinary opportunities and significantly expanding our partnerships with industry across four research themes including Biomedical Engineering - in support of medicine and health. |
